Susan & Tom
This wedding was a stunner. Susan and Tom are young sweethearts- they both met at Villanova. Theirs is a deep connection, as if they’ve met in past lives!
Susan is an accountant, and in her spare time, loves nothing more than design. She is so creative, and unusual – just the kind of client we love to work with. Her color palette, her Chinese crystals, the specific choices she made- all this shines through in the photos. And she formed a dream team of vendors- from Confetti and Co’s devotion to detail- hand-dying napkins and folding origami, to Sullivan Owen’s fantabulous florals – especially the drippy greenery in the rafters. The wedding had a rich color palette & unusual styling, Chinese influences & hip boho florals. And the Chinese dragons- what a thrill to watch the procession (we had a great view from our office window, which overlooks the pond). Alisa Tongg ran the Chinese tea ceremony.
As to menu! We were set for a challenge – how to please Tom’s family (meat and potatoes) and Susan’s family (coming from China and in the restaurant business). At first we thought we would coordinate provision of food from a Chinese restaurant, but the truth was that we realized we could prepare the food better. For example, the Lobster in ginger sauce was a traditional and important dish for Susan to feature at the wedding, but the Chinese restaurant version was unwieldy for banquet service. We bought Maine lobsters and prepared them with one presentation lobster and the rest of the lobster out of the shell, sauteed and served family style. The salad was delicate and fruity yet not too sweet. The green beans were Chinese long beans. We did however try to avoid too much cilantro. Tom’s mother hadn’t ever tasted it, and she’s one who cannot tolerate the taste- true for some- the herb tastes like dirt or soap! So we steered clear.
